IGNITE FORWARD: BUILDING THE FUTURE OF LOCALLY LED CHANGE

In March 2026, about 100 participants gathered in Nairobi for IGNITE Forward, a regional convening designed to do more than celebrate achievements. At a time when shrinking civic space, growing humanitarian needs, and declining resources are forcing the aid sector to rethink its models, IGNITE Forward created a space to examine a fundamental paradigm: local organizations are better positioned to…

REIMAGINING FUTURES: HOW A CLASSROOM GAME IS EXPANDING WHAT YOUNG PEOPLE DARE TO DREAM

In classrooms across Jordan, many students grow up learning more about society’s expectations than possibilities. Gender norms, social pressure, and limited exposure to diverse careers often shape how young people imagine their futures, sometimes before they have the chance to discover their own interests or abilities. For Madrasati, a national initiative working to improve public schools, this quiet narrowing of…

KEEPING GIRLS IN SCHOOL: HOW LOCAL SOLUTIONS ARE DRIVING LASTING CHANGE IN ETHIOPIA

In Hawassa City, Ethiopia, staying in school is a combination of barriers that reinforce one another. Before the project began, “girls faced barriers including menstrual hygiene challenges, domestic workload, risk of violence, low academic performance, and lack of confidence,” explains Meaza Woubishet, Executive Director of Joy Development Organization. With support from the IGNITE consortium, Joy Development Organization (JDO) designed an…

TURNING EVIDENCE INTO ACTION: CONFRONTING GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE IN SCHOOLS In BURKINA FASO

In Burkina Faso’s Nakambé region, 150 km from the capital Ouagadougou, girls dropping out of school had long been present. Communities, educators, and organizations suspected that gender-based violence (GBV) played a significant role, but without solid evidence, these concerns rarely translated into decisive policy action. With support from the IGNITE programme, FEMIN-IN, a grassroots organization working at the intersection of…

FROM BREAKING SILENCE TO BUILDING SYSTEMS FOR GENDER EQUALITY IN LEBANON

ABAAD was founded on the belief that lasting change requires simultaneous action at community, institutional, and policy levels. The organization operates through a distinctive dual positioning: grassroots teams embedded in communities through mobile units and safe houses work alongside trusted partnerships with state institutions including the Ministry of Social Affairs. This bridging role connecting lived experience with institutional power has…
